### Ringworm in Cats

**Ringworm** is a fungal infection of the skin characterized by ✅ circular hair loss ✅ and dandruff, often accompanied by red skin, erythema, scabs, and hyperpigmentation.

⭕️ Based on the symptoms, ringworm in cats can be categorized into:
👉 Mild ringworm
👉 Moderate ringworm
👉 Severe ringworm

⭕️ 3 Diagnostic Methods for Ringworm in Cats:
1⃣️ **Hair Pluck Test:**
👉 Hair can be easily plucked, and the root has dandruff.
90% likely to be ringworm!
2⃣️ **Wood's Lamp Examination:**
Under Wood's lamp, the affected skin glows green.
⚠️⚠️⚠️
1. Part the hair to expose the skin (not just the hair)
2. Look for green fluorescence
3. Dust or medications may also fluoresce
3⃣️ **Microscopic Examination & Culture:**
Requires a visit to the vet.
✅ Microscopic results within 30 minutes
✅ Fungal culture results in 7-10 days
👍👍👍 99.9% accuracy

⭕️ 3 Grades & Treatment Plans:

#### 🐈 Mild Ringworm:
**Symptoms:**
✅ 1-2 localized areas of hair loss and dandruff
✅ Hair loss areas less than 1.5 cm in diameter
**Treatment:**
👉 Pitphen Spray
2-4 times a day for 7-10 days
⚠️ Use an Elizabethan collar to prevent licking
⚠️ In emergencies, Povidone-iodine can be used

#### 🐈 Moderate Ringworm:
**Symptoms:**
✅ 3-5 localized areas of hair loss and dandruff
✅ Cat scratching, erythema on the skin
✅ Hair loss areas greater than 2 cm in diameter
**Treatment:**
Full-body shave (head can be left unshaved)
👉 Pitphen Spray + Ketoconazole cream
Spray 2-4 times a day for 10-15 days
⚠️⚠️⚠️ Ketoconazole may cause increased hair loss and hyperpigmentation, which is normal

#### 🐈 Severe Ringworm:
**Symptoms:**
✅ Multiple areas of hair loss, dandruff, and erythema over the body
✅ Some areas may have scabs and hyperpigmentation
✅ Hair loss areas greater than 5 cm in diameter
**Treatment:**
Shave large areas
👉 Pitphen Spray + Itraconazole (oral) + Medicinal Bath
Weekly medicinal bath for four weeks
⚠️⚠️⚠️ Due to the side effects of Itraconazole, the cream is not suitable for extensive ringworm; oral tablets should be used instead
‼️‼️ Protect yourself
Some types of ringworm can infect humans, causing circular red rashes and itching
Use compounded ketoconazole cream for treatment, which takes about half a month

⭕️ Three-step Prevention of Ringworm in Cats:
1⃣️ **Environment Disinfection:**
Thoroughly clean the environment once a week, especially the cat's bedding and hidden corners.
Some disinfectants are highly unsuitable for use!!!
2⃣️ **Nutritional Supplement:**
1. Enhance nutritional intake to boost skin resistance
2. Skin nutrition supplements such as Vitamin B, lecithin, fish oil, etc.
3⃣️ **Personal Hygiene:**
1. Brush your cat daily to detect ringworm early
2. Bathe regularly (once every 1-2 months) to maintain individual hygiene for your cat

‼️‼️ Treating ringworm is a lengthy process, and incomplete treatment can lead to recurrence

❎ Do not stop treatment midway!

**1. Feed high-quality cat food or raw bones and meat.** This forms the foundation for balanced nutrition and a healthy body, essential for maintaining healthy fur. **2. Supplement with lecithin.** Feed your cat two to three egg yolks per week. The lecithin in egg yolks is an effective element for nourishing fur. You can see results in two months. Egg yolks can be fed cooked or raw. If your cat has difficulty eating egg yolks, you can provide good-quality lecithin products, preferably those derived from egg yolks rather than soy lecithin. **3. Supplement with Omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids.** These fatty acids are essential for healthy fur and preventing skin inflammation. However, their unstable structure means they oxidize and break down once exposed to air. The unsaturated fatty acids in cat food can completely oxidize within a week to ten days of opening the bag. Thus, cats usually lack sufficient unsaturated fatty acids. To supplement Omega-3s, options include fish oil (note, not cod liver oil, which contains vitamin A and can be toxic in excess), mackerel, Pacific saury, salmon, or canned deep-sea fish. However, tuna and cod, despite also being deep-sea fish, do not contain fish oil. Feed your cat 200-300 grams of deep-sea fish per week to supplement Omega-3s through diet. **4. Supplement with complex vitamin B.** Due to its instability, complex vitamin B decomposes on exposure to light and high temperatures, meaning most cats are deficient. Supplementing with complex vitamin B can boost your cat's immune system and reduce shedding.
